Scout Adventure Racing

posted 27 Aug 2013, 02:03 by Andrew Yeaman   [ updated 10 Feb 2015, 03:05 ]
What is Scout Adventure Racing
Scout Adventure Racing is based on the popular sport of orienteering and provides walking, running and navigational training to Scouts, their parents and any other members of the public that want to come along and join in. Bring your dog along for a walk to if you like.  Joeys and cubs will required a parent helper to go with them.

How is it run?
You will be given an eTag and a map. Working in pairs or by yourself you have to navigate the map trying to get to as many of the checkpoints as possible in a 1 hour period. If you take longer than one hour you will be have points deducted (3 points per MINUTE!, so don’t be late!).  The check points are numbered 1 to 20. Each check point has a number of points associated with it,
ie,  1-5 = 2 points, 6-10 = 3 points, 11-15 = 4 points, 16-20 = 5 points.
To see how you went you can look up the results on the website.

Who can take part?
Events are both safe and enjoyable - offering challenges to both the beginning navigator and to the experienced orienteer. If you can walk or run for 30-60 minutes, then come along and join us; bring the kids or the family dog - they can enjoy the Melbourne outdoors too.

How much does it cost?
Scouts are FREE! (ie. Leaders, Scouts and registered parent helpers).
All others (including parents and siblings) have to pay a one off fee of $5.00 per family (this pays for the public liability and eTag rental). Once this is paid you can go to subsequent events (see list below) for only $2 per adult (kids are free).

Please see the Scout Adventure Racing website for results and more details:  http://street.orienteering.com.au

Turn up from 6:30pm but you must be finished by 8:00pm.

NB: The 15 October is based out of our hall, so let's all support the event!
